BOSTON, MA It may seem inconceivable, but rumor has it that presumptive Democratic nominee John Kerry is considering choosing former President Bill Clinton as his running mate to challenge President Bush in the fall election.
Details remain to be worked out, but Democratic
pundits say the
idea could be a good one. "Imagine the
fun," commentator James Carville grinned.
"What could the Republicans do? Call
Clinton a liar? I don't think Bush wants to
make 'who lies more' the main issue in this election."
"On top of that," Carville continued,
"we crushed the Republicans in '98 when they
ran on that 'anti-hummer' platform of theirs.
I'd love to see them try that again."
One potential sticking point is Kerry's concern
about Clinton's handling of female interns.
Campaign insiders have said that Kerry is reluctant
to choose Clinton unless the former President agrees
to give him "first dibs" on all interns,
a condition Clinton has so far adamantly refused.
There is also the concern that Clinton wants more
than anything to be President again notwithstanding
the twenty-second amendment. Kerry's fear
is that, if Clinton was his Vice President, Clinton
might have him assassinated within weeks of winning
the election.
Clinton had no comment when reached in connection with this story.
